How to Spot a Potential Cheater

When two people fall in love, they expect to date, one-day marry, and live happily ever after.  While this dream is certainly possible for many couples, it is not the case for everyone.  Sadly, between 35% and 40% of wives and 40% to 50% of husbands cheat on their spouse.  With those statistics, it means your chance of facing a situation of an affair is relatively high.

In this article, we wanted to provide you with tips on how to spot a potential cheater.  That way, you are not blindsided.  Keep in mind that these tips on a cheating spouse are the traditional signs, a person would see but that does not always means your spouse is going outside the marriage.  Therefore, rather than accuse your spouse of having an affair just because you notice one or more indicators, be careful and begin to gather information if you are suspicious.

One way you could spot a potential cheater is to hire a private investigator.  The benefit here is that your husband or wife would never know that they are being watched.  That way, your suspicions about your spouse can be confirmed, one-way or the other.  If your spouse is cheating, then you can take the appropriate steps to deal with it but if not, no harm has been done.  Of course, the key is hiring a professional, someone who is specially trained, experienced, and discreet.

Another option is to obtain a copy of your spouse’s cell phone statement.  You can contact the phone company and simply request a copy of the statement be sent to your business address or to a friend’s home.  Once you receive the statement, you can look at a number of things to include telephone numbers, location of the calls, time of the calls, and duration of the calls, to include both incoming and outgoing.

The same process can be done with credit card bills.  If you are on the account, then you can look at the credit card statement to determine if hotel rooms have been secured, flowers bought, dinners reserved, or gifts purchased.  Unless your husband or wife has a reason for these items, such as them being bought for you, suspicions would rise.  If you were not on the credit card account, then you would need to see if you could get your hands on a statement when the spouse is not around.

Next, ask questions.  The goal here is to ask questions so they are a part of normal conversation.  What you are trying to do is ask enough questions and the right type of questions so you find discrepancies.  Additionally, begin to monitor the mileage on your spouse’s car.  If he or she states the only place going is to work and the gym, but you notice far more miles, you would have reason to know why.

Finally, use your own eyes to see where your spouse is going.  If you believe that your spouse is cheating, take time when he/she has a late night meeting to drive by the office to see if his car is there.  If not, then the next time he/she has a late night meeting, arrive early and stay hidden so you can watch to see where your spouse goes.  Catching a spouse cheating is never a pleasant experience but if you feel something is amiss, you owe it to yourself to know the truth, regardless of what that is.
